Hi I’m Nicola, and I’m delighted to share Seasonal Yoga with you at The Wee Yoga Room.
I started dabbling in yoga with my Mum and sisters in my 20s, looking for a way to relieve the stresses of a demanding career. A friend took me to an Ashtanga Yoga class in 2002 and I was hooked! I started to practice regularly, then joined my teacher’s 200-hour course and qualified as a yoga teacher in 2009. Teaching and practicing brought a sense of balance to life with a demanding job and 2 lovely daughters, as well as helping me recover from a series of health challenges.
I am a constant student and I LOVE bringing what I learn into class to share! I completed a 300-hour teacher training with the Seasonal Yoga Academy in Glasgow in 2016, followed by a 2-year training to become a Seasonal Yoga Master. I study yoga philosophy with the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies and philosophy and meditation with my teacher Marit Akintewe, and I have trained in Ashtanga Yoga with John Scott and David Keil too. I became assistant teacher on Stirling’s first seasonal yoga teacher training in 2018 and I am delighted to say I now lead the teacher training school, taking on new trainee yoga teachers each September.
So, what is Seasonal Yoga? In our classes we blend Hatha Yoga postures and breathwork with Traditional Chinese Medicine’s 5 element and organ meridian theory. The aim is to work with, rather than against, the energy of nature in each season, to enhance the positive traits and tendencies of the elements and meridians in play. In this way we free the energy in our bodies, enhancing vitality and wellbeing. I hear from my students that this practice helps them feel more relaxed, to sleep better, and become more aware of their bodies and their energy, knowing when to act and when to rest.
I love the way seasonal yoga practice changes from week to week, depending on the time of year, the meridians in play in the season – and of course, who is on the mat with me on any particular day. This practice is for anyone, beginners to experienced practitioners, and I’m looking forward to welcoming you to our classes soon.
Nicola will be teaching her Seasonal yoga classes every Thursday at 18:15 – 19:15. Her classes start on the 15th of February and you can book directly here: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
