My name is Francesca Crawford and I offer a range of treatments, including Swedish Massage; Remedial & Sports Massage; Hot Stone Massage and Facials.
I gained my Swedish massage qualification in 2016 at the prestigious Western School of Massage and went onto further gain a Diploma in Remedial & Sports massage a few years later. I previously trained and worked as a social worker but decided to embark on different career path and went onto learn the art of massage which I have always loved and being interested in.
Massage can benefit the Mind and Body in so many ways and I get great satisfaction when a client feels an improvement physically and/or mentally after a treatment. I particularly interested in the Muscle system and the different ways of palpating the body to improve functionality.
With Swedish Massage there are four main strokes (Effleurage; Friction; Petrissage; Tapotement), which can be used all over the muscles of the body which can be relaxing and soothing but can also be used as a method of relieving genuine muscle tension, therefore light to moderate to deep pressure can be used depending on what the client requires.
With Remedial Massage, a series of soft tissue massage (targeted Swedish strokes); passive mobilisations and remedial techniques are applied to aide in the recovery of both short and tight and also long and taut muscles. People may require treatment in a particular area of the body and this is where remedial massage is applied. The person may have areas of tension due to the nature of their work; injury acquired during a sporting event; exercise activity or post-operative recovery where there are weak muscles requiring help to regain their original strength.
With Sports Massage, this can be applied both before, during a break and after a sporting activity. If a client requires treatment before a sporting event I would be able to help prepare the specific muscles that would enhance their performance and reduce risk of injury. After the event the client will likely having tired muscles and sports massage can be highly beneficial to reduce muscle tension, lengthen out short and tight muscles that have overworked during the event. All this is positive for the body and mind.
I have also gained diplomas in Hot stone Massage and Beauty Facials in 2017/2018 through Gateway Workshops in Falkirk. Hot stone is useful for aches and pains allowing the massage to work in the deeper muscle layers, which can be useful in remedial and sports massage.
With the Beauty Facial, this is usually a one-hour treatment that includes deep cleanse; exfoliation; massage; mask; tone; serum and moisturise. Whilst the mask is on for 10-15 minutes, a hand, foot or scalp massage is included. The skin on the face is particularly thin and more sensitive than other parts of the body. A Beauty Facial is a great way of nourishing the skin to help reduce signs of aging and is a deeply relaxing treatment which leaves the skin feeling and looking vibrant.
At an initial appointment I will always complete a thorough consultation form alongside the client to establish if safe to treat and location of muscle tension and tailor make the treatment to the individual. This has proven to be a successful method to best meet the needs of the client.
