-------Profile--------
Fiona began practicing yoga on her first visit to India in 2000 and has since fallen in love with yoga and India (she describes herself as being “Indian on the inside”). After trying a range of yoga practices and benefitting from many different teachers, she fell into a regular Ashtanga practice around 2006. She has completed her 200 hour teacher training course with Brian Cooper at Union Yoga in Edinburgh and is currently training in Seasonal Yoga, with Julie Hanson and Sue Wood, at Chi & Co in Glasgow. She teaches beginners Ashtanga and Seasonal Yoga.
Seasonal Yoga is based around traditional Chinese medicine which recognises that our bodies need different types of nourishments at different times of the year. Summer season is a time of high energy when Ashtanga has the most benefit. Autumn and Winter are times of drawing in and slowing down by bringing things to a conclusion and focusing on the breath. Spring is a time of growth and renewal when we stretch ourselves out of winter towards new beginnings. All these ideas are reflected through seasonal yoga practice which enhances the body’s natural healing system through movement which moves energy around the body.
Having spent a lot of time in India and studied with a number of different teachers, Fiona enjoys bringing yoga philosophy to life on the yoga mat by incorporating the principles of Mindful Living through yogasana practice.
Fiona also runs regular Mindfulness courses which introduce the basic theory to Mindfulness practice and some simple exercises, techniques and meditations to help participants to develop a continuous mindfulness and meditation practice.
