In this workshop, we aim to demystify the ' Mysore style' technique of learning the Ashtanga sequence.
Mysore is in the Indian city where this method originates from. In a Mysore style class, you have the freedom to do your own practice, but with the support and guidance of your teacher. This means that you can practice at your own pace, working to your own breath. This level of practice is completely appropriate for everyone, but most participants feel a little intimidated by the idea of doing their own practice - most people worry that they won't remember the sequence!
In this 2 hour class, we will introduce you to Mysore style looking at:
The origins of the practice
The use of the breath in the practice and how we flow from one pose into the next
Laura will guide you through the sun salutations and the first 6 standing poses for the first part of the class and you will then repeat each part of the routine on your own. This will help you to begin to learn the sequence.
You will have lots of time to ask questions and to work through any concerns that you may have with this method of practice. This workshop will give you a taste of what it is like to practice in a Mysore style environment and will hopefully give you the confidence to come along to one of our Mysore classes. If you sign up for the Mysore style course on the day, you will be given a 10% discount!
This 2 hour workshop is suitable for graduates of the beginner or Level one course or for those with a basic knowledge of the Ashtanga practice.
